Masazir Lake (passing through)
Masazyr is a small village, located 15 km north of Baku on the way to Sumgayit and the large salt lake bearing the same name as the village is its main attraction. Masazir Lake is the Dead Sea of Azerbaijan. It is considered to be one of the most remarkable eight pink lakes in the world, including Lake Retba (Senegal), Laguna Hutt (Australia), Pink Lake (Australia), Lake Hiller (Australia), Salinas de Torrevieja (Spain), Dusty Rose (Canada ) and Quayrading (Australia). This remarkable reservoir is a source of raw materials for the salt factory located on its coast and is fenced with a net and is considered, as a kind, the Azerbaijani Dead Sea. The lake is salty and the salt concentration is such that not one living creature is found in it. If you look down on the lake, it will even be exactly the same color as the Dead Sea, slightly pinkish.
The lake is interesting in that artisanal salt mining flourishes here for a long time, which gives it an interesting pink hue. Locals will improve their cars - they make the suspension higher and the wheels are bigger, drive into them right in the middle of the lake and start mining salt. They take out salt manually, also manually load on the cars and take away. The total area of the lake is 10 square kilometers. The ionic composition of water contains large amounts of chloride and sulfate.
Entrance to the Winery "Firelands"
Wine tasting in Baku is an ideal alternative for admirers of traditional culinary art, connoisseurs of winemaking and national cuisine, as well as those who want to try something new. You will have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the winemaking craft, technology and ancient traditions of the production of famous Azerbaijani wines, to observe the production process. Collecting ripe bunches of grapes in baskets, preparing wooden barrels for wine, unhurried work in the vineyards and tireless care for the vine, all this precedes the creation of the perfect drink - wine. And most importantly, there is no particular need to go far to Italy to see the beauty of winemaking. It is enough to go outside Baku at a distance 20 km. Not far from the village of Novkhany, on the hills among the salt lakes spread beautiful vineyards and the plant of the company "Firelands".You can come here and see for yourself how wine is born, to feel like a true winemaker. You will meet with the beauty - neat rows of grapes, as if someone on top of an invisible force scribbled under the line of these fields. Rows go to infinity, getting lost beyond the horizon, repeating the intricate relief of the local terrain. Trying to grape, you begin to comprehend the whole essence of wine, its unique original soul. The vine penetrates deeply into the soil, gathering moisture, minerals, passing all the strength of the earth through roots, stalks and leaves, and pouring all the facets of taste in wine. It is important to say, Novhani has its unique climate.
Winemakers with extensive experience acquired in Italy will be happy to share the secrets of their profession. They will talk about how the grapes are cut and carefully collected in boxes that are taken to the plant, immediately unloaded on the conveyor, from where the grapes are sent to clean the cuttings and leaves. Next, the grapes are sent under the press and in the tank. It is in the cistern that life begins to arise in wine. Finding himself in the very heart of the plant, already at the entrance to the workshop one can feel the rich and thick smell of ripe grapes. We can safely say that this journey through the factory will open the secret door to the world of wine and worship of this noble drink in front of you.
