National Salvation Day June 15
The Day of National Salvation in Azerbaijan is one of the most memorable dates, marking an important event in the history of the country. In June 1993, an explosive situation developed in Azerbaijan that could lead to the beginning of a civil war. The Popular Front, which came to power in 1992, did not cope with the situation in the country. At the request of the people from Nakhichevan, Heydar Aliyev was invited to Baku, who took power into his hands in June and prevented a civil war. On June 15, 1993, Heydar Aliyev was elected chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Thus, June 15 entered the history of the country as the Day of National Salvation. From that moment began the rapid development of the country in economic and political terms. The official status of the holiday acquired in 1997, and since 1998 it has become a national holiday.
